Natural Health: Whole Foods Vs. Supplements
There are many schools of thought surrounding the use of supplements. Some feel they are essential to good health/well-being while others lean towards whole foods, as the main source of nutrients. The majority are somewhere in the middle, depending upon circumstances.
I am one of those who believes your body is your best indicator. If you
are alert to its signals, it will gladly inform you of the necessity of
supplements. For the most part, a diet rich in vitamins, minerals, and
nutrients will suffice.
This day and age is filled with appointments, rushing and eating on the
run. How could one possibly fulfill their nutritional requirements
unless becoming fully responsible for their eating habits?
Feelings of malaise, lethargy, "rundown," constant colds or infections,
cracked nails, fissures around the corners of the mouth, dull hair,
blemished complexion, are just a few of the signals one will notice if
he/she is not maintaining sound nutrition. The body is giving off signal
after signal, suggesting it is time to regroup.
Remember, supplements cannot take the place of proper nutrition. It must
begin with a healthy diet, wholesome foods, natural grains, fibers, and
lean proteins. Plenty of fruits, vegetables, and variations. Taking the
time to sit down and have a leisurely meal is also essential.
Strenuous dieting lowers serotonin levels and raises cortisol levels as it detracts from your health. Skipping meals adds to adrenaline and anxiety symptoms. Caffeine, nicotine, sugars and salts place a stress on our system.
Avoid processed and refined foods by shopping the peripheral of the
market.
Your body reflects your diet/nutrition. This is where natural health
begins.
